empower yourself through grounding and meditation

 

When we are true to ourselves and we pause briefly, we can see moments in our lives that seem like we’re in a snow globe being shaken up.  This time of year is a good example; summer is coming to an end, the children have gone back to school, traffic patterns are changing, lots of hustle & bustle.  How do we ground ourselves and stay grounded through all the scattered energy around us?

There are many ways to connect to the earth and ground ourselves; simply taking a walk or going to the beach and walking in the wet sand, gardening, taking a bath, sitting in nature, yoga asanas, meditation, aromatherapy, etc. We all have our special way of grounding and being present.

Importance of grounding

The importance of grounding is vital in our daily lives.  If we are not fully present how can we make good decisions, drive a car, run a business or raise our families?   If we are not present where are we?  Maybe we are daydreaming or thinking about something that is outside of us.  It creates a wonderful distraction, but how does it affect our lives?  Of course, it feels good to escape for a short time and remove ourselves from uncomfortable situations or feelings that arise.  But, does it truly resolve anything?  Traveling to the past or future in our thoughts, we may have a sense of the unknown and many possibilities but the risk is that we lose ourselves down the rabbit hole and we can miss some amazing moments and opportunities that are happening in present time.  If we stay grounded with our head in the same place as our feet, we are empowered to create a better life for ourselves with certainty.

 

Grounding/meditation exercise

A grounding/meditation can be as simple as sitting upright with your feet on the ground, eyes closed and imagining a grounding cord, like a tree trunk or hollow tube…connecting from the base of your spine just below your tail bone, and reaching directly down to the center of the earth. The intention of connecting to mother earth is grounding in its simplest form.  It is in that place of feeling connected to the earth’s energy, life force and wisdom that we relax and we can just be. This can be done at anytime of the day or evening.  It’s easy! And it helps you feel centered and grounded.  It only takes a few minutes and the results are amazing!
