LOVE, why is February considered the month of love? Why isn’t March through January considered the months of love? Who decides that only one month out of the year is the month of love? We all want to be loved in all the months of the year, don’t we? We are limitless beings, so then why are we limited? Here is a great example…from Sue Monk Kidd, the secret life of bees “We are so limited, you have to use the same word for loving Rosaleen as you do for loving Coke with peanuts. Isn’t that a shame we don’t have many more ways to say it?”
Our limitlessness is our gift, yet we choose to become limited within our choices, our words, our possibilities and our loves. Isn’t it time to take a step back and look at what we have created? Are we happy with our choices? If you could do or be anything what would you do or be? If you wanted to be love for example, how would you show love? Or be love?
It is interesting that we only have one word for an emotion that can be so deep. Just the word love can bring about many different reactions, from a soft smile, to tears and even the body language of fear. The word love encompasses so many types of love; Romantic love, self-love, love for our families, friends, pets, love for certain foods, special places, love of things…
What does love mean to you? How do you feel when you think of the word?
“Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend” Martin Luther King Jr.
We each have an internal gauge and know how the different types of love feel, from the simplest form to the deepest form. Love is an emotion without definition. It is a feeling of pure bliss and sometimes divine sorrow, it is itself limitless.
In earlier times we may have prayed to, or worshipped a figure or deity known to bring or sustain love, amongst other riches, like well producing crops or protection of some sort.
Venus, Aphrodite and even Cupid are examples. Most have sought love throughout history and have called upon anything they believed would bring it.
In present time, not much has changed. We crave to love and be loved, it’s human nature. A Course in Miracles reminds us to bring our thoughts back to peace when there is conflict internally or externally. We can also use “love” in that way. How can we see, feel and be love…instead of _____. In a tense situation at work, school and/or relationships we have a choice to turn things around and to come from a place of love. To be compassionate for others and in doing so we are changing our projection, thus changing the energy and vibration. It takes some practice and is not foolproof, yet it’s a great way to experience a day in total awareness of this twist of emotion.
“Do not seek the because–in love there is no because, no reason, no explanation, no solutions.” ~Anais Nin
Expressing our love can be as simple as an exchange of smiles with a stranger, or a hug between good friends, a hand on a shoulder of someone who may be suffering or simple listening attentively to someone sharing themselves with you. If we all took the time to express love out in the world maybe we can shift the energy a bit, it’s a big world, yet…there are many “head scratching” occurrences in history and present time that have no true explanation. We just have to believe and it is so.
Miracles are possible, we’ve each experienced many miracles. Do we notice them? They occur everyday in some form or another, birth is a huge miracle. Each one of us is a miracle, did we lose touch with that? Miracles are happening all the time, what was your miracle today? There are tiny miracles happening all the time. Parking spaces in LA, smiling faces in any large city can be a small miracle. They are all around us. All you need is awareness…smile, you are a miracle!
Bob Marley was a pioneer of love and peace. He changed history with his words and heartfelt desires to create peace and continues to do so 30 plus years later. The following is only part of his explanation of his romantic love, yet it can be true for all types of love: “You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.”
How about taking a moment right now to center in your heart. Give yourself a breath, place a hand on your heart space, close your eyes and imagine the feeling of love filling this space. You may not feel anything or see anything or you may see a color or be filled with emotion or maybe a friend or special someone pops in to your head. Whatever your experience, see where that takes you and share your love within yourself and with all you encounter.
